B-Side Band
Tipping Point Records
(16 tracks)
BOP Blues members, Simon Elton, Paul Parkhouse and Carl Winter are Tauranga's B-Side Band. This is their first full length CD, and like their earlier EP, was recorded at The Boatshed in Tauranga. It features Paul on harp and sax, and the trio sound is fleshed out with guitar and mandolin parts by Derek Jacombs, a piano track from Nigel Masters and both guitar and percussion by Nick Elton.
Simon Elton has a thorough knowledge of Kiwi music so the song selection covers Mayall's "Sitting in the Rain" - which was a NZ hit for The Underdogs, "Lonely Blues" by Johnny Cooper - the 'Maori Cowboy' and Lloyd Price's "Lawdy Miss Clawdy" - which was a NZ hit for Johnny Devlin.
The music mix is a cocktail of about one part blues to two parts rockabilly. Most of the songs, though, are originals in that stylistic mix. The B-side band are regulars in a variety of BOP venues, including our own 'Belgian Bar' and their regular fans are sure to snap up this well produced album.
